When we were kids, Dad used to say that snow came from the ground and not the sky. The view outside my window at the hotel in Chicago... Dad was right!

7.26.2013: giddy up
Giddy up, 2x4s, rope, 2013, detail.
Another afternoon in the studioioio brought me a friendly ol' horse...Sawhorse, horse horse... or maybe a hoarse horse...he just whispered at me.. get on and let's go. (And now I have "a horse is a horse, of course, of course..." in my head. Maybe that's what this guy should be named.

7.25.2013: lean
Untitled (lean), 2x4s, 2013.
I started working on this a couple days ago. I am enjoying the textures and playing with the 45 degree angles. Beach houses, bath houses, coast, waves, shifting structures...

Wallpapering after a fruitful wallpaper hunt. Tomorrow's agenda: put everything back together. We'll see how it goes.

7.12.2013: not so far
Not So Far, plywood, paint, 2x4s, 2" x 14" x 10", 2013.
More 2x4 pieces. They have been reminding me of waves and housetops and mountains and tents and subdivisions and flooding...

We had a good family reunion this week and all went for a ride on the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler.
This is the wheel in action:

6.22.2013: wooly brick stack
Stack, bricks, wool, 2013
More tinkering with found objects. Today it was 2x4s, bricks, and wool roving. I enjoy rearranging things. So far, this is one of a pair.

6.5.2013: and still the 2x4s have something to say
I'm arranging and rearranging and thinking about how space and place shift and appear and disappear, and how boundaries are seen or felt. All that in some 2x4s leaned up against the wall.

5.24.2013: It's the little things
It's the little things, reclaimed wood, finger-weight yarn, 2013
More
tinkering. When I pulled out the middle board to use for the second
tinsel piece, the loose knot remained. Such a simple and utilitarian
gesture suddenly became poetic. I love those moments.
5.24.2013: more reclaimed wood
Untitled (Glitterstick II), reclaimed wood, tinsel, 2013
I
didn't go far enough with the one from yesterday, so I tried again.
Sometimes more is better...which reminds me of this New Yorker cartoon

5.22.2013: clouds
Cloud II, wood roving, skewers, wire, 2013
Cloud II, detail
Cloud, wood roving, skewers, yarn, 2013
Summertime... and I get to have a studio for a bit. Wahoo! I'm still thinking about last summer and the things I tinkered with. This is today's. Things I'm thinking about: how to make something that looks like a cloud, how to make something that looks like a cloud stand up, combining hard and soft, fluffy roving is lovely, delicate stuff...

4.12.2013: pollen clouds
I took a walk in the rain today and found puddles swirling with pollen. It reminds me of atmospheric things.
