7.31.2010: day 157

A necklace I made the other day.

7.30.2010: day 156

Evening rose.

7.29.2010: day 155

A little bit o' traffic and a street light or two.

7.28.2010: day 154

Self-portrait shadow.

7.27.2010: day 153

Earlier this summer, the pet goose from next door defected to my dad's pond. Apparently, the neighbor kid came over shortly after that and tried to chase Daisy back home... to no avail. In the meantime, a pair of Canadian geese defected from their group and have also taken up residence. And then... a third, just last week, decided to stay behind. I'm waiting to hear if more have joined the party. Maybe Dad and Barb should name their yard Goose Hollow... or Goose Condos... or Goose Cubed... err, I mean Quad...Goose Quad. Hmm...

7.26.2010: day 152

Shadows like these always remind me of the negative space assignment.

For example:
Concentrate on drawing the negative spaces, rather than the positive forms/shapes. Be careful not to draw the objects themselves. Instead, draw only the contours, the common lines between the objects, and the space they occupy in your composition. If there are negative spaces 'inside' the object, include them in your drawing (the spaces between tree branches, or the spaces between chair legs, for instance.)

7.25.2010: day 151

I went to see/hear a wonderful WYSO (World Youth Symphony Orchestra) concert tonight, with guest violinist Philippe Quint. A cool evening at Kresge.
Reminds me I should go do that sort of thing more often.

7.24.2010: day 150

Not quite a full moon yet (not until Monday, 7/26.) But, it was nice and bright this evening.

7.23.2010: day 149

I went to dinner with some friends I haven't seen in a long time. It was lovely. We sat outside next to the water as the sun went down on Little Traverse Bay.

7.22.2010: day 148

The latest page from my sketchbook. I've been thinking about trees and fence posts and borders and boundaries and relationships between people. I may redo this page on a larger scale so I can add more, or I suppose I could use multiple pages. So many things are connected and circle back and around each other.

7.20.2010: day 146

I spent most of the day working on a new sculpture. This is one of the nice knots I found.

7.19.2010: day 145

Weeeee....swinging in the sunshine.

7.18.2010: day 144

Note to self: Next time...no matter what the tag says...do not wash my new (very cheap) comforter in the washing machine. Lump city.

7.17.2010: day 143

Today, I got together with some friends. We spent the day doing a little beading and catching up. While we sat out on Patti's deck and fed the fishies, a dragonfly stopped by for a visit.

7.16.2010: day 142

This afternoon, I wandered around the mall. It was hot and sunny and a bunch of kids were having a great time playing in the water fountain (water feature? mini water extravaganza?)
Anyway, it looked like a good time.

7.16.2010: day 141

You wouldn't know it by this photo, but we were really getting rained on. The sky on the other side of the building was pitch black- it looked liked midnight, instead of seven o'clock.
And, I like how you can see upside down images of the lawn and building in the water droplets.

7.10.2010: day 136

Barn swallow babies.
I think there are four of them chirping away. Mom barn swallow wasn't too happy I was checking out her chicks- she brought over some friends and they circled around, flying in and out of the lean to yelling at me. I told her it was ok, I was just taking a look and not to worry. I didn't get too close to the babies, though, and only stayed a few minutes.

And this evening, we had a decent thunderstorm. It was pretty speedy, but did drop some dime-sized hail for a bit. Lovely clouds, though.

7.9.2010: day 135

Sunset, 9:37pm.
I had a decent drive, until I was 25 miles from my destination... and then I sat on the expressway for nearly an hour due to an accident 10 miles away. I hope the folks involved were ok, but I was glad to finally arrive at my dad's.
Lovely sunset this evening, and it's actually cool out. Unheard of lately!

7.8.2010: day 134

Oh popcorn, how do I love thee?
I came home this evening and found a little bit of homemade popcorn waiting for me-- a lovely greeting. Thank you.

7.7.2010: day 133

My friends' fishy pond. (This guy looks like he's on a mission.)
They are very friendly and like to be fed.
They also like to nibble toes, in a nice, friendly toe tickling sort of way.

7.6.2010: day 132

Hello Detroit.

7.5.2010: day 131

I visited some friends in Pittsburgh today, and we went to the drive-in theater in Moon Twp.
I had no idea I'd get to go to two drive-ins in one week!

7.4.2010: day 130

I drove by the ice cream social on my way to a spectacular barbequing extravaganza.

I pulled in my driveway just in time to see the last of the fireworks through the trees, so I watched a bit on tv. Not quite the same, but it was slightly festive. Turning the lights out helped.

7.3.2010: day 129

Lovely sunflower faces at the Farmer's Market.
(Although, I spy five faces...heehee...)

And, I bought a new little camera today. The first photo I made with it, as you can see, is of my old camera relaxing on my screened in porch. Thank you, Little 9er, for so many good, tireless years of service. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement. May you continue to dream and document (at your leisure, of course.)

7.1.2010: day 127

A little gnarly vineage. Texture, texture, texture...I could just eat you up with my eyes.
